Main Characters and Their Development

• Mr Norrell - One of the main characters, who at the beginning of the book is the only practicing magician in England. He aims to bring magic back to the country but is very cautious and secretive. As the plot develops, his character is revealed to be selfish and power-hungry, leading to conflicts with other characters.
• Jonathan Strange - Another main character who becomes Mr Norrell's apprentice. He is more impulsive and open to experimentation in magic. Strange gradually becomes a more powerful magician and begins to explore the dark and dangerous aspects of magic, leading to his estrangement from Norrell and others.
• Lady Pole - The wife of Sir Walter Pole, who becomes a victim of a magical conspiracy. Her fate intertwines with the world of the fae, and she finds herself captive to a mysterious gentleman with hair like thistledown.
• Stephen Black - The servant of Sir Walter Pole, who also becomes involved in the world of the fae. The gentleman with hair like thistledown promises him a kingdom, and his story unfolds parallel to the main events of the book.
• The gentleman with hair like thistledown - A mysterious and powerful fae who manipulates people and events for his own purposes. He plays a key role in the fates of Lady Pole and Stephen Black, as well as influencing the conflict between Strange and Norrell.
