Brief Overview
«The Grasshopper» is a story by Anton Chekhov that narrates the life and fate of Olga Ivanovna Dymova, the wife of Dr. Osip Dymov. Olga Ivanovna is a frivolous and flighty woman, captivated by art and social life. She is surrounded by artists, musicians, and poets but fails to appreciate the loyalty and hard work of her husband. In contrast, Osip Dymov is a diligent and selfless man who genuinely loves his wife and is willing to do anything for her. At the end of the story, Dymov contracts diphtheria from a patient and dies. Only after his death does Olga Ivanovna realize how important and valuable he was in her life.
