Main Characters and Their Development

• Stuart — one of the main characters, who at the beginning of the novel appears confident and successful. However, as the story progresses, his self-assurance begins to waver, especially when his marriage to Gillian is threatened by the interference of his friend Oliver. Stuart undergoes an inner transformation as he tries to save his relationship and understand his own feelings.
• Oliver — Stuart's friend, who initially seems more carefree and lighthearted. However, his interest in Gillian leads to complex emotional turmoil. Oliver gradually reveals himself as a deeper and more complicated character, struggling with his own feelings and moral dilemmas.
