Main Characters and Their Development

• Jernau Morat Gurgeh — the main character of the book, a talented player from the Culture who specializes in complex games. At the beginning of the book, he feels dissatisfied and stuck in a routine. His journey to the Empire of Azad and participation in the eponymous game become a challenge that changes his worldview and self-understanding. Gurgeh faces moral dilemmas and questions about power and justice, leading to his personal growth and change in attitude towards life.
• Drone Mawhrin-Skel — an artificial intelligence accompanying Gurgeh on his journey. Mawhrin-Skel possesses a sarcastic sense of humor and serves as both an assistant and a friend to Gurgeh. It plays an important role in supporting the main character and helping him adapt to new conditions.
• Elvin — a representative of the Empire of Azad who becomes a guide for Gurgeh in the world of the Empire. He demonstrates the complexity and contradictions of the imperial system and serves as an example of how power and games can influence a person.
