Summary
The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been nearly wiped out by a biological catastrophe. At the heart of the story are two women, Toby and Ren, who struggle to survive in this new world. Toby, a former waitress, hides in a spa, while Ren, a former dancer, is trapped in an upscale brothel. Both were once members of the religious eco-sect known as «God's Gardeners», which had predicted the disaster and prepared for it. As the plot progresses, the protagonists face various threats and attempt to find other survivors, all while reflecting on their past and making sense of what has happened. The book explores themes of ecology, religion, and human nature in times of crisis.
