Pyotr Pavlovich Yershov (1815 – 1869) –  a Russian poet, novelist and playwright. Lifetime portrait of Pyotr P. Ershov by Nikolay Madzhi (Maggi) (end of 1850s), is considered as the most reliable image of the author of «The Little Humpbacked Horse».

The undated portrait has a size of 26 by 20 cm, oil on cardboard and framed by an oval. It shows  a middle-aged Ershov against the sky with  pink clouds, wearing a black coat, white shirt and a tie.
